It all began with a lockdown baby & a cardigan, lovingly hand knit by my grandmother & gifted to Adelaide (the baby).
I loved all of Adelaide’s cardigans for the sentimental, practical & handmade qualities, but I wanted to add a little something extra …. cue Milk Belly & the personalisation of children’s knitwear.
With the birth of our second baby, Miss Margot I started to collaborate with amazingly talented ladies who have founded some stunning UK small businesses! (check out my latest collaborations) I have introduced a couple of new styles such as the embroidered muslin swaddle blanket, wrap knit jumpers & focused on ensuring I offered premature & newborn sizes - inspired by our teeny tiny 4.5Lb Margot.
Most importantly over the years of I have come to learn that a cardigan, or any knitwear really, is not only a staple piece of clothing in a babies wardrobe -especially when its handmade - but it is also a cherished keepsake & that fashion & clothing should be slow, sustainable, stylish & treasured forever pieces wherever possible. Which is why at Milk Belly I continue to champion UK handmade collaborations such as the beautiful blankei.
